Commentaires : Cette adaptation française est montée par Cameron Mackintosh, à la fois à Paris au théâtre Mogador et à Montréal au Théâtre Saint-Denis. Les textes sont adaptés par Alain Boublil des textes anglais de Kretzmer, s'appuyant toutefois à maintes reprises sur ses textes originaux de 1980.

Commentaires : Based on the 1927 Fritz Lang film, the musical version has changed some of the names and given the story a new ending. In spite of breathtaking scenery by Ralph Koltai, and a lavish production, the show received very mixed notices and came off after just six months, losing its entire £2.5 million investment. The authors did a lot of work rewriting the show and did get some provincial USA productions.
